現代污水處理技術,按處理程度劃分,可分為一級、二級和三級處理工藝。污水一級處理應用物理方法,如篩濾、沉淀等去除污水中不溶解的懸浮固體和漂浮物質。污水二級處理主要是應用生物處理方法,即通過微生物的代謝作用進行物質轉化的過程,將污水中的各種復雜的有機物氧化降解為簡單的物質。生物處理對污水水質、水溫、水中的溶氧量、pH值等有一定的要求。污水三級處理是在一、二級處理的基礎上,應用混凝、過濾、離子交換、反滲透等物理、化學方法去除污水中難溶解的有機物、磷、氮等營養性物質。污水中的污染物組成非常復雜,常常需要以上幾種方法組合,才能達到處理要求。
污水一級處理為預處理,二級處理為主體,處理后的污水一般能達到排放標準。三級處理為深度處理,出水水質較好,甚至能達到飲用水質標準,但處理費用高,除在一些極度缺水的國家和地區外,應用較少。目前我國許多城市正在籌建和擴建污水二級處理廠,以解決日益嚴重的水污染問題。
