污水一級處理為預處理，二級處理為主體，處理后的污水一般能達到排放標準。三級處理為深度處理，出水水質(zhì)較好，甚至能達到飲用水質(zhì)標準，但處理費用高，除在一些極度缺水的國家和地區(qū)外，應用較少。目前我國許多城市正在籌建和擴建污水二級處理廠，以解決日益嚴重的水污染問題。
