工業(yè)廢水是在工礦生產(chǎn)活動中產(chǎn)生的廢水。工業(yè)廢水可分為生產(chǎn)污水與生產(chǎn)廢水。生產(chǎn)污水是指在生產(chǎn)過程中形成、并被生產(chǎn)原料、半成品或成品等原料所污染，也包括熱污染（指生產(chǎn)過程中產(chǎn)生的、水溫超過60℃的水）；生產(chǎn)廢水是指在生產(chǎn)過程中形成，但未直接參與生產(chǎn)工藝、未被生產(chǎn)原料、半成品或成品等原料所污染或只是溫度少有上升的水。生產(chǎn)污水需要進行凈化處理；生產(chǎn)廢水不需要凈化處理或僅需做簡單的處理，如冷卻處理。

案例：

某鋼廠形成600萬噸/年生產(chǎn)規(guī)模時，平均排水量將達到4000m3/h。廢水處理工程設(shè)計平均日處理能力9.6萬米³，夏季最大日處理能力10.8萬米³,其中70%作為工業(yè)補水回到廠區(qū)管網(wǎng)，其余達標后排放。

  該廢水處理回用工程于2010年4月開工建設(shè)，20012年1月主體結(jié)構(gòu)完工，2012年5月試運行，2012年8月交付生產(chǎn)。工程占地29500㎡，新建建、構(gòu)筑物占地8041㎡，綠化覆蓋率32%，靜態(tài)投資為8643萬元。

廠區(qū)全部廢水經(jīng)處理后達到排放標準，其中回用水經(jīng)軟化、過濾、消毒等深度處理后，達到生產(chǎn)用水標準。

本工程進水為典型的鋼鐵工業(yè)廢水，有機污染物含量不高，可生化性差，不適宜采用生化方法降解。本項目主要采用物理化學(xué)法。作為工業(yè)補水，在回用水深度處理中增加去除暫時硬度、總堿度軟化、過濾、消毒等工藝。
